Where the Gardens "Used to Be" documents Rhode Island's agricultural heritage from the earliest times to the present.

Any garden, farm, or greenhouse that has been or currently exists in Rhode Island can be listed.

Where the Gardens ‘Used to Be’ is a new Providential Gardener project. It complements and will link to other agricultural websites, and it collects source material including stories about Rhode Island’s rich agricultural past. But that’s not all! It also includes where the gardens are and might be again – our future heritage we are creating for the coming generations.

I welcome all relevant information, but I am focusing on building the website and select a couple of topics at a time to concentrate my own research. This spring of 2012 I am collecting information about community gardens anywhere in Rhode Island as well as stories about home milk delivery, especially during the 1940s and 1950s. If you have information about these or other interesting aspects of Rhode Island’s agricultural heritage, please send to: Providential Gardener, Sue Korté, skorte@providentialgardener.com (Box 2556, Providence, RI 02906).
